Pembuatan Mesin Penyangrai Pengolahan Kopi Arabica Gayo untuk Peningkatan Pendapatan Pengusaha Kopi
Abstract
Coffee roaster machine is a food processing machine used to roast green coffee bean to be roasted bean and ready for further process to be coffee powder. For small coffee business companies and coffee shops in Indonesia, the machine was considered as expensive equipment because it was imported from other country and the spare parts were difficult to find in local market. Dealing with the problem, a coffee roasted machine with 5 kg capacity has been developed. The heating room was made of food grade 304 stainless steel to make sure that the material has a good corrosion resistance and the heat could be distributed uniformly. The machine was driven by a 0.25 HP DC motor equipped with transmission system to reduce the rotational speed and maintain the high torsion during operation. The development of the roaster machine includes mechanical design, material selection, fabrication, assembly and performance testing. The machine then delivered to two coffee business companies, i .e. the roasted Arabica coffee producer and Arabica coffee restaurant/ café, under the community service project funded by Universitas Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The program also provided the training to the business partners regarding the operational procedure of the machine and business management of the company. As the result, the using of the coffee roaster machine and the implementation of business management significantly increased the productivity and the income of both of the companies.
