Hypertension is a pathological condition characterized by an increased blood pressure of more than 140/90 in a calm state. Increased blood pressure can be effectively managed through a combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. Pharmacological therapy is with drugs, while non-pharmacological therapy involves lifestyle changes and herbal extracts that are low in side effects, such as ginger. Ginger contains bioactive chemicals such as gingerol, zingerone, and shogaol, which can provide pharmacological effects, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-coagulant, analgesic, anti-carcinogenic, and non-toxic properties, even at high concentrations. In addition, ginger can stimulate the release of the hormone adrenaline and dilate blood vessels, causing blood to flow faster and more smoothly, and making it easier for the heart to pump blood. Thus, the use of herbal products, such as ginger, can help lower blood pressure in individuals with hypertension.
